Hello, you can export the changes you did at the theme options, for the file changes copy the files you changed and paste the at the child theme, if they are inside a folder, create the folder.

Child theme is exactly for that, to prevent losing changes after an update, so you are safe.

Hello, the confirmation email issue is usually an error related to the hosting php mail, so you can use an SMTP plugin and configure it with your email client Buddypress uses his own page, to change that you will need to change buddypress, so i suggest to hire a developer for that s its not easy
