I see that, i’ve tested several things but unsuccessfully, try to deactivate all plugins except buddypress and rtmedia, to see the problem persists, if the problem disappears please enable plugins one by one and reproduce action to see what plugin causes this.

The profiles are visible by default for all users logged and non logged,

Try to resave permalinks by going to wp-admin -> settings -> permalinks -> save changes.

Do you have added some function to sweetdate-child/functions.php ? or do you have a plugin that restrict profile viewing ?

You can disable temporary registration to the website by going to wp-admin -> settings -> general and uncheck anyone can register and for the spam protection you can use wangguard plugin / http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/wangguard/ .
