Hello, website speed dependds on a lot of things, plugins, server, page content…
First ,you should use a cache plugin like W3 Total cache, enable page cache, browser cache and object cache.
Other plugins are:
– Lazy Load
– Smush it

A cdn could also help, like Cloudflare.
The hosting, hostgator is the one i use, and i use kleo, loading speed less than 3 seconds.
You can disable buddypress as you want, only activate it if you want to use it as a social network.
